Questions to Myself
Who is my protagonist?
The family are the protagonists
What do they want?
They want to live in the idyllic world of nature
Why do they want it (aka, what will happen if they don't get it)?
They will have to give up their heroic vision of themselves
Who is my antagonist?
The modern economy
What do they want?
Everything
Why do they want it (aka, what will happen if they don't get it)?
Anything outside of the economy is just territory for conquest. Capitalism cannot abide any rivals. Think of what it has done to monarchy and religion.
Precisely how are the two goals (what they want) mutually exclusive?
Any compromise with the modern economy is a lost territory that cannot be regained, and compromise is always necessary.
